10:15 - Center time (Includes blocks, cars, books, art, manipulatives, dress-up, housekeeping, science and table toys), Small group activity including art

11:10 - Clean up and closing group

Welcome to our four year old class!  It was nice to see you and your child at orientation.  Your children are delightful, you must be doing something right!  We have a fun year ahead of us, and many activities are being planned to increase our kindergarten readiness skills.

With this newletter you will find our calendar, which has all of our monthly information on it.  Helper days, field trips, color days, themes, letter of the week, etc.  For helper days we go in reverse alphabetical order.  We will also go on field trips this year and will get the dates out to you as soon as they are scheduled.  You will also receive a driver's form tha needs to be on file if you are willing to transport any of our little ones who may need a ride.

By the time your child is in the four year old class, most of them can identify some letters and numbers, and they know their colors and shapes.  To reinforce these skills, we will focus on a letter a week, and a number a month.  We will do many different activities to help us learn upper and lower case letters, simple sight words and letter sounds.  Counting, number recognition, pre-math, science and readiness skills are things we will do this year.  We will sing, read stories, work on being kind and talk about ways we can be a good friend.  In September we will focus on getting acquainted and reacquainted.  We will learn about what makes us special, apples and fire safety.  Our numbers are one and two, and our letters are Aa, Bb, and Cc.

We will go out every day we can weather permitting.  We have hooks for you to hang your child's things.  Art and notes home will go on the floor under their hook.  We would also like you to provide a change of clothes for your child in a large Ziploc bag, labeled with their name in case of spills or accidents.  We do have extra clothes at school, but not all children like to wear them.

We will have two parties this year, Halloween and Valentine's Day.  We have room moms already, but are you always welcome to stay and help, we love having parents help out in our room.  Room moms are responsible for planning crafts, games, stories and snacks.  We have some regulations to follow on snacks and we will go over those as it gets closer to party time.  Also, please let us know if you would like to come in and read a story, help out with a craft, or share a special talent or skill.  We ask that you do this after the first few weeks of school so we can all adjust to our new class.  We love visitors!  I am also looking for someone to do our book orders.  Once a month we order books from Scholastic.  Please let me know if you are interested.
